Beavers Bend Resort Park
& the Forest Heritage Center
If you want a history of the area and feel your kids need something
educational this place will do the trick. The lumber industry
is the main industry of the area and this museum's main focus centers
around that theme.
Forest Heritage Center
The Heritage Center has 14 dioramas (painted by Harry Rossoll of Atlanta,
Georgia, the artist who created Smokey Bear) that cover Prehistoric Forests,
Caddo Indians, Papermaking in the South, 1940's Lumbering with logging
camp displays, and Forest Appreciation. The Heritage Center is
full of antique forestry tools, wood art, and homestead memorabilia.
Admission is free. Opened 364 days a year from 8am – 6pm. Operated
by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.
Swim Beach and
Paddle Boats
For a diversion from swimming in Broken Bow Lake,
the park has a swim beach on the river. The bridge that crosses the river there is
full of trout in case the kids just want to fish. Paddle boats and canoes
are available for rent located just across the swim beach. You
can float or paddle down the river between the mountains and through
the cypress.
Hiking Trails
There are 5 nature trails and over 12 miles of hiking trails located in Beavers
Bend State Park ranging from 1 mile up to 5 mile trails. Register at
the forest heritage center or nature center before you begin. These
folks can tell you where to go. [More...]
